The outward man is the swinging door; the inner man is the still hinge.
– Meister Eckhart
(I’ve been coming across a lot of really wonderful, helpful quotes that all seem to involve doors. I think it’s time I made a door.)

Euphemism of the day:
I don’t make mistakes. I make “learning opportunities”. And boy, did I make a lot tonight. If anything ends up being square on my “garbage table” I’ll be amazed. I feel like I’m about to learn how out-of-square something can be, and still stand. So many freaky, inconsistent angles on this old thing. Very challenging joinery. And, on a totally unrelated...

Charles Rennie Mackintosh, How I Worship Thee.
Just three examples of this magician of form and construction. Makes me giddy when I see his work - a happiness that catches me by surprise every time.
There is hope in honest error. None in the icy perfections of the mere stylist.

Mahogany deforestation and bribery.
Recently Brazil banned the felling of mahogany, but the effect of this action is controversial since most mahogany is illegally harvested in from areas in Brazil and Bolivia set aside for indigenous peoples where mahogany still grows. It is estimated that 80% of the trade in Mahogany is illegal.
However, just a week after Brazilian president Cardoso signed the decree, the Brazilian...
