About Shelly Dwyer

I studied Fine Woodworking at Selkirk College in Nelson, British Columbia. I have a workshop in my basement where I build furniture and other things out of wood. I have chosen to work exclusively with wood sourced from North American trees.

Exotic woods are not sustainably harvested, no matter what your supplier says. Woods like mahogany and teak are endangered which obviously has the same result on the species who rely on these trees and forests for their food and shelter.

Be a conscious consumer - only buy items made from well managed forests. Yes, Europe, Australia and other places also practice responsible forestry, but those trees have to travel great distances to our market. North American species are as beautiful as any in the world and they grow right in our own backyards.

I don’t have a crush on Nick Offerman. I outright love him. Not only is he the brilliant Ron Swanson on Parks and Rec - “You had me at meat tornado” - he is, in “real life”, an extremely talented woodworker. This picture is my happy place.
